Accredited Nursing Schools

When choosing a nursing school, make sure you choose one that is approved by the state. Accreditation is the process where non-governmental organizations recognize programs or/and schools that are considered to conform to certain requirements for educational quality. There are two organizations that accredit nursing schools: the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. While NLNAC is responsible for the accreditation of all types of nursing education such as diploma, associate's, baccalaureate and master's, the CCNE accredits programs that provide baccalaureate and master's level degrees.

Not every nursing program or nursing school is CCNE or NLNAC accredited. Some of the non-accredited nursing schools can still provide a good education and graduates will still be eligible to sit for the NCLEX examination. However, it's very likely that you will not be able to pursuit a master's degree programs or a RN-to-BSN. This may represent a limitation to your professional nursing career. Normally all accredited nursing schools benefit from approval by their state board of nursing as well. Some programs will offer you a scholarship only if you're attending an accredited nursing program. Take the time to find an accredited nursing school and benefit from the best education.
