Foreign Nursing

Looking for a foreign nursing career in the US? You may want to know there is a high demand for foreign nurses these days. Many nurses have changed professions or had retired and now the nation is in search of replacements. There are several requirements you should meet in order to be able to practice but these prerequisites differ from one state to another. Foreign nurses can apply to take obstetric, pediatric or psychiatric nursing. If they meet the criteria for licensure they will be accepted.

The certification program has three parts: an English language proficiency exam, a CGFNS Qualifying Exam and a credentials review. A TOEFL test will also be required. You can find the scores required to pass the tests on the CGFNS site lists. The reviewers will look at clinical practice and theorethical instruction in several areas of nursing including: Psychiatric Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Neonatal Nursing, Adult Surgical Nursing and Adult Medical Nursing. They usually are not interested to examine you in any other areas of study. It's also required that you are registered first-level nurse in your country.

You may want to know that there are many places specifically designed for foreign nurse graduates, where they can exchange preparation tips or exchange useful resources like books and websites.
