In a career but looking at Medical School

What is the best approach to take if I am already in a career as an engineer but looking to attend medical school? If you are dissatisfied with your current job as an engineer, perhaps you should consider returning to school. Maybe it has always been your dream to become a doctor. While going to medical school now may sound intimidating, it could transform your life.

Perhaps you are concerned about the many years of schooling involved in acquiring a medical degree. Becoming a physician can take as long as sixteen years. Medical school is not easy, and there are many competitors in the medical field. There are only 146 medical schools in the United States, and each receives many applicants every year. Medical school is also very expensive. In fact, most doctors graduate from medical school with large debts.

Alternatives to attending medical school would be to enter another career in medicine. All medical professionals are in high demand today, and you could become a nurse or medical assistant in much less time than it takes to earn an M.D. However, if being a doctor has always been your dream, don't let time or money constraints change your mind. You will have a happier, more successful life if you achieve your goal. Despite the challenges of becoming a physician, medical practice is a very rewarding career. Also, doctors are in high demand almost everywhere in the United States. If you have the qualities necessary for a good physician - determination, stamina, and a desire to help others - you can fulfill your dream. Although it may be a challenge to earn a medical degree later in life, it is certainly possible.
